The Supplements I’m Taking and Why

I’ve been asked by many which supplements I’m taking and others have suggested some. I figured it was time to do a post about what I’m taking and why. This is not a complete list because I also take high-quality multivitamins and several food items like ground flax seed, MCT oil, electrolytes, fiber, and other staples in my ketogenic diet.

Curcumin (3rd Generation)

This supplement is one of the most studied. Its safety profile is excellent and is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It has also been extensively studied in relation to cancer, including my specific type of cancer. The results were quite positive. However, normal curcumin supplements you get at most stores will have poor bioavailability which is to be expected. They have developed what are called 2nd and 3rd generation curcumin supplements which are more highly bioavailable. I am taking two of the 3rd generation ones.

Vitamin D (with Vitamin K)

This one is more straightforward. Many studies have shown a correlation between cancer and low vitamin d levels. Also, there are numerous studies showing vitamin d supplementation having beneficial effects for cancer patients.

Spirulina

This supplement is really a food, technically. It is micro algae. I take it in small green tablets. It has been studied for decades and the medical studies showing its effects on cancer are quite extraordinary. If I had to recommend a single supplement to anyone, this would be it. It is a superfood.

Ginger

This has unique benefits and has been studied for decades. Not only is it anti-inflammatory, it is also anti cancer, and best of all it helps with nausea and upset stomach. While I can’t say for sure it was due to the ginger, but I’ve not felt nauseous a single time since being diagnosed.

Melatonin

This one surprised me, because I always viewed it as purely a sleep aid. Turns out this hormone is a powerhouse with anticancer capabilities. There are many recent studies showing strong results for melatonin in the treatment of human cancer. I’ve only recently begun taking this one so we will see how I tolerate it.

Berberine (stopped taking this one)

This one serves two functions: first is to help control blood sugar and secondly to fight cancer. I was surprised to learn that berberine has an excellent anticancer track record in medical studies. Metformin would be better but I don’t yet have a prescription. UPDATE: I stopped taking Berberine due to GI issues. I won't go into detail but it is a common issue when taking therapeutic quantities of this supplement. I later got a prescription for Metformin due to the solid research about its efficacy against cancer.

These are the heavy hitters in my arsenal right now…I don’t think I forgot any but I might have. If you are aware of another I didn’t list and it is backed up by clinical studies, then let me know. I would love to research it and consider it.

Thank you!
